About the Fellow

Timi Sanni represents the new generation of Nigerian writers who seamlessly blend traditional storytelling with contemporary literary innovation. As a multidisciplinary artist, he brings a unique perspective to poetry that encompasses visual arts, performance, and digital media, creating work that speaks to the complexity of modern Nigerian identity.

His impressive track record of contest victories demonstrates his exceptional talent and dedication to craft. The 2022 Kreative Diadem Writing Contest, 2021 Anita McAndrews Award Poetry Contest, and 2020 SprinNG Poetry Contest wins establish him as one of the most promising voices in contemporary African poetry, with judges consistently recognizing his ability to create work that is both technically accomplished and emotionally resonant.

His publication record in prestigious literary venues including Black Warrior Review, New Delta Review, Cincinnati Review, and Poet Lore places him among the most widely published emerging poets of his generation. These publications, alongside his appearances in Plumwood Mountain Journal, Palette Poetry, Frontier Poetry, and Lolwe, demonstrate his ability to reach both American and international literary audiences while maintaining his distinctly Nigerian voice and perspective.

Fellowship Statement

Timi Sanni's fellowship portfolio 'Fragments of Memory' explores the intersection of personal and collective memory in contemporary Nigeria, using innovative poetic forms to examine how individual experiences connect to broader cultural narratives. His work demonstrates the kind of experimental, brilliant, and daring poetry that the Unserious Collective Fellowship seeks to recognize and support.
